Dey Don’t Respek: Texas Coach No Like UCF’s Celebration!

Texas coach Rodney Terry, he wen’ feel some kine way ’bout how UCF wen’ party afta dey wen’ win against da Longhorns.

Afta UCF wen’ shock everybody wit da win, Coach Terry, he wen’ get all hot unda da collar when he see some UCF guys making fun of Texas’ hand sign, da Hook ‘Em Horns.

Da UCF guys, dey was like, “Nah, we no ‘fraid ya!” and wen’ do da Horns Down sign. Coach Terry, he went str8 up mad, hollering “Eh, dat not cool, brah!” in da handshake line, tellin’ dem, “No be like dat.”

Coach Terry, he stay steamin’ even afta 30 minutes when he talking to da media. He wen’ say, “You do da kine stuffs, you look like you no get class. You look like you just hoping fo’ win. We no hope fo’ win, we expect fo’ win. So, we no act dat way. We expect fo’ win. We no bounce around like we win da whole world. And we no go somebody else’s house and act all crazy, tryna show off. We no do dat.

“Hey, you guys win. We shake yo’ hand, we tip our hat to you. But you no can act like dat in our place. You no can put yo’ horns down and do all dat nonsense.”

Da UCF coach Johnny Dawkins, he tell da media, “Coach Terry, he one good guy. I get plenny respect fo’ da Texas program.” He say he go check da video and if gotta do somethin’, he go do um.

But when he watch da video, he go see his guys no really do nottin’ much. Dey no even shove da Horns Down in Texas’ face. No need make um big like dat.

But fo’ Coach Terry, da real problem should be his own team. Dey wen’ choke one 15-point lead in da second half. Da Longhorns, dey wen’ only make four baskets in da last 12 minutes. Dis was da second loss in a row, and dis time to one team nobody really talk ’bout, UCF.

Fo’ Texas, dis kinda loss, it hurt more ’cause da Big 12, dis year, no give easy games. Only few teams worse than 54th in da nation, says KenPom.

Da Longhorns, dey 12-5 overall, but only 1-3 in da Big 12. Dey goin’ get one hard time ahead wit da schedule: Baylor, Oklahoma, BYU, Houston, TCU, Iowa State, all in next three weeks. And still gotta face Houston, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Baylor on da road before postseason.

KenPom, he say Texas go finish 17-14 overall and 6-12 in da league. Dat no good enough fo’ NCAA.

But lucky fo’ Coach Terry, da fix fo’ both problems, it da same ting.

Texas Coach Takes Offense at UCF’s Celebration

Texas coach Rodney Terry was displeased with how UCF celebrated after their victory against the Longhorns. After UCF surprised everyone with the win, Coach Terry became upset when he saw some UCF players mocking Texas’ hand sign, the Hook ‘Em Horns. The UCF players showed no fear and made the Horns Down sign. Coach Terry was visibly angry, expressing his disapproval during the handshake line, telling them, “That’s not cool, guys. Don’t behave like that.”

Coach Terry remained upset even after 30 minutes when speaking to the media. He remarked, “When you engage in such behavior, you come across as lacking class. It seems like you’re just hoping to win. We don’t hope to win; we expect to win. So, we don’t behave in that manner. We expect to win. We don’t celebrate excessively as if we’ve conquered the world. And we don’t go to someone else’s place and act wildly, trying to show off. We don’t do that.”

He continued, “You guys won. We shake your hand, we acknowledge your victory. But you cannot behave like that in our home. You cannot disrespect us by making the Horns Down sign and engaging in such nonsense.”

UCF coach Johnny Dawkins responded to Coach Terry’s comments by saying, “Coach Terry is a good person. I have a lot of respect for the Texas program.” He stated that he would review the video and take appropriate action if necessary.

Upon reviewing the video, it was evident that the UCF players did not engage in provocative behavior. They did not flaunt the Horns Down sign in Texas’ faces. Coach Terry’s real concern should be his own team, as they squandered a 15-point lead in the second half. The Longhorns only made four baskets in the last 12 minutes of the game. This loss marked their second consecutive defeat, this time to a relatively unheralded team like UCF.

For Texas, this loss stings even more because the Big 12 conference this year offers no easy games. According to KenPom, there are only a few teams ranked worse than 54th nationally. The Longhorns have an overall record of 12-5 but are only 1-3 in the Big 12. They face a tough schedule ahead, including games against Baylor, Oklahoma, BYU, Houston, TCU, and Iowa State in the next three weeks. Additionally, they have away games against Houston, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Baylor before the postseason.

KenPom predicts that Texas will finish with a 17-14 overall record and a 6-12 record in the league, which may not be sufficient for an NCAA tournament bid.

Fortunately for Coach Terry, the solution to both problems may be the same.
