Fo’ four years now, da computer scientist Trieu Trinh been all wrapped up in one meta-math problem: how fo’ build one A.I. model dat can crack geometry problems from da International Mathematical Olympiad, da yearly battle fo’ da world’s most math-savvy high-school students.

Last week, Dr. Trinh wen successfully defend his doctoral dissertation on dis ting at New York University; dis week, he spil’ da beans ’bout his hard work in da journal Nature. Dem call ’em AlphaGeometry, and dis system can solve Olympiad geometry problems almost as good as one human gold medalist. 🥇✨

While Dr. Trinh wen grind on dis project, he wen pitch ’em to two research scientists at Google, and dey wen scoop ’em up as one resident from 2021 to 2023. Last week, Dr. Trinh successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on this matter at New York University; this week, he spilled the beans about his hard work in the journal Nature. They call it AlphaGeometry, and this system can solve Olympiad geometry problems almost as well as a human gold medalist. ✨
