Have you caught wind of the latest buzz? The most renowned name in NASCAR is making a groundbreaking shift.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., the racing icon, is bidding farewell to NBC to join the ranks of Amazon Prime Video and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, according to insiders speaking to The Athletic.

Earnhardt plans to take a breather this season and then hit the ground running in 2025 when WBD Sports and Amazon kick off their racing coverage. 🎙️🚀

This transition is set to grant WBD Sports and Amazon a hefty dose of legitimacy as they launch their series. They’re each slated to host five races per season. WBD Sports’ coverage will air on TNT, be available for streaming on Max, and feature a Bleacher Report segment. NASCAR is poised to enhance WBD Sports’ already rich lineup, which includes the NBA, NCAA Tournament, MLB, and NHL broadcasts. With Amazon Prime Video already showcasing exclusive NFL games on Thursday nights, it’s positioned as a frontrunner to secure NBA rights as the league enters upcoming negotiations. 📡🏀

Last week, Earnhardt informed NBC of his departure, say sources familiar with the discussions. While he’s set to take this year off, he retains the option to forge agreements with either of the two broadcasting giants, Fox and NBC. Yet, there are currently no serious negotiations underway with either entity.

NBC Sports has expressed their gratitude towards Earnhardt, stating, “Dale Earnhardt Jr. is cherished in the NASCAR community and has significantly contributed to NBC Sports, from his analysis on our NASCAR broadcasts to his roles at major events like the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics.” They extend their best wishes for his future endeavors. 🏆👏

In early February on his podcast, “Dale Jr. Download,” Earnhardt shared his aspirations to stay with NBC, despite lacking a contract for 2024. “I absolutely love being in the broadcast booth and want to continue doing that,” he said. “We’ve had meaningful dialogues with all of NASCAR’s TV partners. My heart is with NBC, and I’d love to return to them. Let’s see how it unfolds.”

Earnhardt, who is now 49, made his move to NBC in 2018, immediately after retiring from racing.

With the new TV contracts, NASCAR will expand to four partners, keeping NBC and Fox, who will broadcast 14 races in 2025, alongside the 10 from WBD Sports and Amazon. The entire NASCAR TV deal spans seven years, valued at an estimated $7.7 billion. The current season remains exclusively with Fox and NBC.

By 2025, with Amazon and WBD Sports entering the fray, they plan to center their coverage around Earnhardt. 🌟🏁
