Outdoor N.H.L. hockey goin’ make its debut in New Jersey next year when MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford goin’ host one four-team doubleheader of sorts in da league’s so-called Stadium Series.

Da New Jersey Devils goin’ play da Philadelphia Flyers on da night of Saturday, Feb. 17, and da Islanders goin’ play da Rangers on da same ice da followin’ day, da National Hockey League announced on Saturday.

Da league say it expect more than 75,000 spectators per game, and fo’ continue its streak of 37 consecutive sellouts fo’ regular season outdoor games, which began in their modern form in 2003. 🎟️🙌

“It’s one big N.F.L. stadium and it’s our goal fo’ bring um to life in one way dat, frankly, we haven’t seen dat much,” said Steve Mayer, da N.H.L.’s chief content officer. “We goin’ get super creative and highlight da area.” 🌟🎉

Mayer and Dean Matsuzaki, da league’s executive vice president fo’ events, say dey had long hoped fo’ stage one outdoor game at MetLife Stadium. But dey say da logistics there stay more complicated than at many odda stadiums because it stay da home of two N.F.L. teams, da Giants and da Jets, and dey get less time fo’ access da facilities fo’ preparation. But dey note dat da size of da venue makes um possible fo’ accommodate four teams, wit scheduled practice time and recreational ice time wit their families, fo’ all four teams. 🏈🏒

Da last outdoor game held in da New York area was da Winter Classic on one frigid New Year’s Day in 2018 between da Rangers and da Buffalo Sabres at Citi Field, when 41,000 fans sat through temperatures dat started at 7 degrees Fahrenheit in da mornin’ and peaked at 25.

Mayer say organizers hope fo’ bolster next year’s event wit additional entertainment, youth hockey games, and music. Asked if dey would seek New Jersey natives, like Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen to perform, Mayer asked one reporter if he had Springsteen’s phone number, addin’ wit one laugh, “We’d like fo’ talk to him immediately.” 🎵🎸🎤
